De UGent kent jaarlijks de George Sarton leerstoel voor Wetenschapsgeschiedenis toe, alsook meerdere medailles voor de geschiedenis van een specifieke discipline. Dit draagt de Faculteit Recht en Criminologie prof. dr. Matthias Schmoeckel (Bonn) voor.
L'Université de Gand attribue chaque année une chaire George Sarton pour l'histoire des Sciences. La médaille pour l'histoire du droit sera attribuée cette année au Prof. dr. Matthias Schmoeckel (Bonn).
Prof. dr. Dirk Heirbaut (UGent/Instituut voor Rechtsgeschiedenis) zal optreden als collega proximus. Bij de vorige laureaten horen onder andere Jean-Louis Halpérin (Ecole Normale Supérieure), Heiner Lück (Halle-Wittenberg), Jürgen Weitzel (Würzburg), Anne Lefèbvre-Teillard (Paris II Panthéon-Assas), Paul Brand (Oxford), Serge Dauchy (Lille), Raoul Van Caenegem (UGent), Fred Stevens (KULeuven), Jos Monballyu (KULeuven) en Randall Lesaffer (KULeuven/Tilburg).
Le Prof. Dirk Heirbaut (Gand/Institut d'Histoire du Droit) introduira le lauréat comme collega proximus.
