Since
1950, the association Standen & Landen has promoted the development
and diffusion of research results in the field of institutional history
in Belgium. Therefore it chooses to adopt an interdisciplinary
approach. The interest of Standen & Landen initially centered on
medieval and early modern institutions. Subsequently its activities
expanded to include governmental and judicial bodies.
Today,
Standen & Landen wishes to go beyond a purely institutional
approach. The focus is on the exercise of power, and what was at stake,
from the Middle Ages until today. Its purpose is to advance our
understanding of the motives of political action, deepen our knowledge
of networks and socio-political organisations, and question the ideology
directing political action and communication.
To
achieve these objectives, Standen & Landen organizes conferences
and workshops and publishes scientific contributions in the series Anciens Pays et Assemblées d’Etats – Standen & Landen.
* Voorstelling
De
vereniging Standen & Landen bevordert sinds 1950 de ontwikkeling en
verspreiding van kennis en inzichten op vlak van
instellingengeschiedenis in België, en dit vanuit een interdisciplinair
perspectief. De belangstelling van Standen & Landen ging in eerste
instantie uit naar middeleeuwse en vroegmoderne representatieve
instellingen. Vervolgens breidden haar activiteiten zich uit op het
terrein van bestuurlijke en juridische instanties.
Vandaag
probeert Standen & Landen de puur institutionele benadering achter
zich te laten. De klemtoon ligt op het spel en de inzet van de
machtsuitoefening vanaf de Middeleeuwen tot op vandaag. Het doel is
inzicht in de motieven van politieke actie te bevorderen, onze kennis
over netwerken en socio-politieke organisaties te verdiepen, en de
ideologie die de politieke actie en communicatie stuurt, te bevragen.
Om
deze doelstellingen in praktijk te brengen organiseert Standen &
Landen conferenties en colloquia, en geeft zij wetenschappelijke werken
uit in de reeks Anciens Pays et Assemblées d’Etats – Standen & Landen.

Depuis
1950, l’association Standen & Landen contribue, dans une
perspective interdisciplinaire, au développement et au partage des
connaissances dans le domaine de l’histoire des institutions dans
l’espace belge. Le champ d’intérêts de Standen & Landen s’est
d’abord développé autour de la connaissance des institutions
représentatives au moyen âge et aux temps modernes. Il s’est étendu
ensuite à la connaissance des institutions de gouvernement ou aux
institutions judiciaires.
Standen
& Landen entend s’affranchir aujourd’hui d’une approche qui se
limite à la connaissance des seules structures institutionnelles. Il
s’agit de porter son attention sur ce qui constitue les jeux et enjeux
de pouvoir, du moyen âge à nos jours : appréhender les motifs de
l’action politique, approfondir la connaissance des réseaux et des
organisations socio-politiques, questionner l’idéologie qui guide
l’action et la communication politiques.
Standen
& Landen déploie ses activités à travers l’organisation de
conférences et de colloques, ainsi qu’à travers une collection
d’ouvrages scientifiques connue sous le titre Anciens Pays et Assemblées
